Elcometer 550
Non Contact
Uncured Powder Thickness Gauge
How to Save up to 30% of Powder Costs

A powder coating has many advantages over an equivalent wet coating system which include:

  • Little or no waste - excess powder or oversprayed powder can be recycled and reused
  • No Solvents- new, tighter legislation and control of VOC emmissions increases the need to use less or no solvents

Making sure that the end product has the correct levels of adhesion, gloss and colour is dependant on the thickness of the powder prior to curing and the temperature profile of the oven.

In order to meet the coating thickness specifications set by the customer, many powder coaters will apply more powder than is required to ensure that expensive rework is not required.

Using more powder than is needed increases costs through:

  • Increased application time
  • Increased Powder usage
  • Increased Cure time, leading to increased oven temperature

By using the Elcometer 550 Non Contact Powder Thickness Gauge, applicators can accurately predict, within ±5 microns (0.2mils), the cured thickness - thereby saving up to 30% of their annual powder usage.

How much will YOU save?

Savings due to accurate thickness control using the Elcometer 550 Non-contact Ultrasonic Gauge for uncured powder paints (Using an average powder cost of $3.75 per kg).
