The Elcometer 157 Magnetic Coating Thickness Gauge, also known as the Pull Off Gauge, is a simple top-pocket magnetic gauge for spot-check indications of coating thickness on magnetic substrates. This model has been discontinued.

Dry film thickness governs whether a coating will protect a steel surface for its intended life, and a lightweight pull-off gauge gives an applicator or foreman an immediate on-the-spot indication without instruments or power. The Elcometer 157 works on the magnetic pull-off principle: a magnet is held against the coated surface and the force needed to pull it away indicates the coating thickness.

The gauge is insensitive to hot or cold coatings and surfaces, which makes it suitable for reading hot sprayed metal coatings and obtaining results immediately. It is easy to use, lightweight, and pre-calibrated with no adjustment required, and carries three scales printed on the instrument body in mils, microns and linear divisions.
