The Elcometer 2250 Krebs Stormer Digital Viscosity Tester (part number K2250M001) measures the viscosity of paints, varnishes, adhesives, pastes and liquid inks at the touch of a button. Viscosity controls how a product flows, levels and applies, so keeping it within specification matters for both process control and quality assurance; a batch that is too thick or too thin can cause defects in application or fail to meet a customer specification.

The instrument runs a standard Krebs spindle at a fixed speed of 200rpm (plus or minus 1rpm) and displays the result in Krebs Units (KU), grams (g) or centipoise (cP). It offers two operating modes. In Automatic mode the beaker is positioned, Start is pressed, and the drive head lowers the spindle to the correct depth, pauses for the sample to settle, runs the test and returns to the start position, giving repeatable and reproducible results. Manual mode allows non-standard sample sizes and containers. Measurement ranges run from 40 to 141 KU, 32 to 1099g and 27 to 5274 cP, with resolution of 0.1 KU, 1g and 5 cP, a measurement accuracy of plus or minus 1 percent of full scale and repeatability of plus or minus 0.5 percent. Sample waiting and measuring times are user adjustable, and each reading carries a date and time stamp.

The Elcometer 2250 can be used in accordance with ASTM D 562 and AS/NZS 1580.214.1 among other standards. Now discontinued, it is supplied and supported by BAMR, South Africa's authorised Elcometer distributor; contact BAMR for a current replacement recommendation.
