The Elcometer 5135 and 5155 Taber Rotary Abrasion Testers (part numbers ST985135-2 and ST985155-2) are rotary abrasers used in wear and durability testing of materials and finishes. This product has been discontinued. Abrasion resistance determines how well a surface withstands rubbing and contact wear in service; controlled rotary abrasion testing gives a repeatable, standardised way to compare materials and verify that a finish meets a wear specification.

The 5135 is a single test head abraser and the 5155 carries dual testing heads, allowing two different or identical materials to be tested simultaneously. Both run at platform speeds of 60 and 72rpm, with balanced, calibrated arms and wheel mounts, a vacuum system with precision height adjustment, and a sealed aluminium housing fitted with a membrane control panel and digital display. A wide choice of abrading wheels and accessories lets the tester simulate real-life wear conditions. The instruments are used primarily on ceramics, plastics, textiles, metals, leather, rubber and painted, lacquered and electroplated surfaces.

The single-head 5135 measures 279 x 406 x 279mm and weighs 19.5kg; the dual-head 5155 measures 482 x 355 x 279mm and weighs 31.75kg, with a separate vacuum unit at 279 x 279 x 610mm and 10.0kg. The testers can be used in accordance with a wide range of standards including ASTM D4060, ASTM D3884, ISO 5470-1, ISO 7784-1, ISO 7784-2, ISO 9352, DIN 52347, JIS K 5600-5-8 and many automotive and industry procedures.
