The Elcometer 6300 Colour Assessment Cabinets, also known as light cabinets or colour matching booths, provide controlled lighting for accurate visual colour assessment and colour comparison. They are now discontinued. Colour consistency is a quality requirement across many sectors, including paint, textiles, automotive, ceramics, cosmetics, dyeing, food, footwear, inks, knitwear, packaging and printing, and inconsistent lighting makes reliable judgement of colour impossible.

Constructed from steel, the cabinets are supplied with a choice of light sources so that samples can be viewed under simulated conditions, including Artificial Daylight (D65), a Point of Sale Illuminant (TL84 on UK 240V and EUR 220V models, CWF on US 110V models), the Home Illuminant (Illuminant A), an Ultraviolet Illuminant (UV) and an alternative Point of Sale Illuminant (TL83). Switching between sources allows easy detection of metamerism, where two samples match under one illuminant but differ under another.

The range is offered with 3, 4 or 5 light sources across a range of sizes. Manual models such as the MM-1E and MM-2E use manual light source selection, while digital models such as the MM-4E can programme the sequence and duration of each illumination. A lamp timer recording D65 daylight bulb hours is standard on digital cabinets and optional on manual ones. The cabinets can be used in accordance with ISO 3668, AS/NZS 1580.601.1, ASTM D1729, ASTM D4086, BS-950-1, SAE J361, JIS K 5600-4-3 and TAPPI T 515.
