The Elcometer P150 Rebar and Wall Tie Locator is a combined detector that locates both reinforcing bar and wall ties, supplied with two detector heads to cover a wide range of metals. It is a discontinued model; contact BAMR for a recommendation of a current replacement.

Surveys of masonry and reinforced structures often need the position of concealed metalwork before any drilling, fixing or remedial work begins. The P150 addresses this with a standard mild steel 100mm head plus an additional 150mm head, allowing it to locate phosphor-bronze, copper and some types of stainless steel wall ties, as well as mild and stainless steel rebars, bed joint reinforcement and hoop irons. It will also locate wiring in plaster walls and works as a stud locator, which makes it a versatile single instrument.

A clear audio tone identifies the metal without needing to watch the meter, and the strongest signal sits in the centre of the search head for accurate pinpointing. The unit is switchable to detect or ignore stainless steel, stays stable in all weather conditions with no re-zeroing, and runs from four standard AA batteries. Approximate detection ranges are 130mm for mild steel and galvanised fishtail or butterfly ties with the 100mm head, and 80mm for stainless steel fishtail ties with the 150mm head. The P150/D detects mild steel and the P150/E detects mild and stainless steel. The high-impact ABS control unit sits in a leather case, with single-button on/off and sensitivity control for single-handed use on ladders or scaffold.
