The Kolectric 8020 Concrete MicroCovermeter is a microprocessor-controlled reinforcement bar locator with data logging, now discontinued. It locates steel reinforcement in concrete and measures cover depth, information needed to confirm that bars sit at the specified depth and to plan drilling, coring or repairs without striking embedded steel.
The 8020 uses pulse induction search technology together with high-powered processors to determine bar diameter automatically and obtain precise depth readings and bar orientation, even where it must discriminate between bars on close centres. Depth is displayed in high and low ranges, with audio and visual location aids to help pinpoint bars. The handheld unit pairs with a lightweight K9 probe with a keypad, and results can be logged and exported to a spreadsheet. Several menu and set-up screens tailor the unit to local requirements, and these settings are retained at switch-on, even after power-down for battery conservation. Battery life is shown on screen, with an additional warning when continuing might compromise stored data. The unit is IP65 rated with a backlit screen and is supplied with a carry case, harness and charger.
This model has been discontinued. BAMR, South Africa's authorised distributor, can advise on a current reinforcement locator to replace it.
