The Tramex MEP Moisture Encounter Plus is a non-destructive moisture meter that detects and evaluates moisture conditions within building materials. It is now discontinued. Concealed or elevated moisture in the building envelope causes decay, mould and finish failure, so locating these problems and tracking drying progress without damaging the structure is the core task this meter was built for.

The MEP transmits a low-frequency electronic signal into the material through electrodes in its base. The strength of the signal varies in proportion to the moisture present, and the instrument converts this current into a moisture content value shown on a large, clear analogue dial. It reads wood moisture content from 5 to 30% and provides a 0 to 100 comparative reference scale for other building materials, with depth of penetration up to 30mm. This allows it to locate moisture-related problems within and behind a variety of materials and to monitor progressive drying conditions.

Housed in an ABS body, the MEP measures 150 x 85 x 38mm, weighs 220g and is powered by a 9 volt PP3 battery, which is included. As this model has been discontinued, contact BAMR, South Africa's authorised distributor, for advice on a current replacement.
