The Elcometer P130 Wall Tie and Stud Locator is a battery-operated detector that rapidly and precisely locates mild steel or stainless steel wall ties, and also works as a stud locator and stud detector. This product has been discontinued; contact BAMR for a recommendation of a current unit to replace it.

In cavity wall construction, wall ties are concealed behind the outer leaf, so any survey, repair or remedial tie installation depends on knowing exactly where the existing ties sit. The P130 solves this by giving a clear audio signal as the search head passes over a tie. The strongest signal sits in the middle of the search head, which makes it easy to pinpoint the tie without constantly watching the meter, and the gauge stays stable in all weather conditions with no need to re-zero.

The control unit is high-impact ABS housed in a tough leather case, and the search coils are encapsulated in epoxy resin for durability. A built-in loudspeaker gives the audio signal, with a standard 3.5mm stereo jack socket for headphones. A single control button handles on/off and sensitivity/backoff control, allowing single-handed operation that is useful when working on a ladder or scaffold.
