Elcometer has been developing coating inspection instruments since 1947. Their own timeline sets the range out year by year, and it is a useful reference if you are placing an older gauge or tracing a current model back to what it replaced.

Where the range started
Elcometer was started in 1947 by the late JC Sellars, with one instrument: the original coating thickness gauge, now called the Elcometer 101. Coating thickness gauges recur right through the timeline that followed.
What came after
The decades after that added much of the equipment coatings inspectors still work with. The Elcometer 104 Pinhole Detector arrived in 1966, the Elcometer 105 Holiday Detector in 1967 and the Elcometer 106 Adhesion Tester in 1970. Acquisitions widened the range alongside the in-house development: Braive Instruments and Protovale in 2003, and Dakota Ultrasonics, another line BAMR carries, in 2011.
