About this product

The AZ 8857 IR Hygrometer is a handheld instrument that combines an infrared thermometer and a psychrometer in one unit, measuring air temperature, surface temperature, relative humidity, wet bulb temperature, dew point and the surface-to-dew-point differential. Those readings decide whether climatic conditions are right for the work in hand, since surface temperature relative to the dew point is what tells you when condensation will form, and HVAC and climate-controlled spaces depend on knowing humidity and temperature together.

A built-in 670nm targeting laser aims the infrared spot of the AZ 8857 IR Hygrometer, which reads surface temperatures from -40 to 500 degrees C with a 500 ms response, adjustable emissivity from 0.3 to 1.0 and an 8:1 distance-to-spot ratio. A Rotronic sensor measures relative humidity across 0.1 to 99.9% RH to plus or minus 3% RH, and the AZ 8857 IR Hygrometer calculates wet bulb, dew point and T1-T2 in seconds. A gear-damper mechanism retracts and protects the humidity sensor, holding off readings while it is stowed to prolong sensor life and keep readings accurate.

The bright back-lit LCD of the AZ 8857 IR Hygrometer allows operation in the dark, suiting climatic condition testing in warehouses, offices, laboratories, basements, wine cellars and HVAC work. The unit weighs about 140g and runs on 4 AAA batteries. Supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised distributor.

Frequently asked questions

What temperature ranges does the AZ 8857 measure?

The AZ 8857 measures ambient temperature from -20 to 50 degrees Celsius via an internal sensor and surface temperature from -40 to 500 degrees Celsius via infrared. IR resolution is 0.1 degrees Celsius.

What accuracy should I expect from IR temperature measurements?

Between -20 and 200 degrees Celsius, IR accuracy is plus or minus 2% or 2 degrees Celsius, whichever is greater. Outside that range, accuracy is plus or minus 3% or 3 degrees Celsius with repeatability of plus or minus 1 degree Celsius.

What humidity range and accuracy does the AZ 8857 provide?

Humidity measurement ranges from 0.1% to 99.9% RH with plus or minus 3% RH accuracy at 25 degrees Celsius in the 10-90% range. Outside this band, accuracy is plus or minus 5% RH.

Does the device calculate dew point and wet bulb temperature?

Yes. The microprocessor calculates dew point from -68 to 49.9 degrees Celsius and wet bulb temperature from -21.6 to 49.9 degrees Celsius.

Is the AZ 8857 portable for site inspection?

The device weighs 140 grams, measures 70 by 50 by 175 millimetres, and runs on four AAA batteries. The display is easy to interpret and allows for measurements to be taken at a glance.

What are the operating and storage conditions?

Operating temperature is 0 to 50 degrees Celsius at humidity below 90%. Storage temperature is -20 to 50 degrees Celsius at humidity below 90%.
