The Elcometer Structural Steel Coating Inspection Kit (part numbers YKIT-STRUCTURAL-F1S, YKIT-STRUCTURAL-F1U and YKIT-STRUCTURAL-Z) is a packaged set of inspection gauges assembled for checking intumescent and other structural steel coatings. It covers the three principal requirements for inspecting these coatings: climate, wet film thickness and dry film thickness.

Each of these matters for a different reason. Climate conditions, monitored with the included Elcometer 319 dewpoint meter, determine whether it is safe to apply: coat outside the right temperature and humidity window and the film can fail. Wet film thickness, checked on the spot with the Elcometer 112 hexagonal combs, lets the applicator confirm the correct amount is going on while it is still workable. Dry film thickness, measured with the Elcometer 456 gauge and probe, confirms the cured coating meets specification, which on intumescent systems governs the fire-protection rating.

The kits of the Elcometer Structural Steel Coating Inspection Kit differ in dry film measurement. Kit 1 (F1S) uses a scale 1 standard straight probe; Kit 2 (F1U) uses a scale 1 scan probe for faster measurement; Kit Z is supplied without the Elcometer 456 gauge and probe for users who already own one.
