The TIME Portable Roughness Tester TR3200 / TR3202 is a hand-held surface roughness meter for checking the finish of machined and manufactured parts in production lines, workshops and laboratories. Surface roughness affects how parts seal, wear, fatigue and bond, so measuring it against a drawing tolerance is a routine quality control step, and a portable instrument lets the check be made at the machine rather than only on a bench.
A high-accuracy inductive pickup with a diamond stylus traces the surface and the TIME Portable Roughness Tester TR3200 calculates the roughness parameters from the profile. The TR3200 reports a set including Ra, Rz, Ry, Rq, Rt, Rp, Rmax, Rv, R3z, RS, RSm, RSk and Rmr, while the TR3202 adds the bearing-ratio parameters Rpc, Rk, Rpk, Rvk, Mr1 and Mr2 for more detailed analysis. Both assess roughness and primary profiles in metric or imperial units, with a display resolution of 0.001 micrometres, selectable cut-off lengths of 0.25, 0.8 or 2.5mm or auto, and a choice of RC, PC-RC, Gauss and D-P digital filters. Accuracy is within plus or minus 10 percent and repeatability within 6 percent.
Results store for up to 15 groups of data and graphs, transfer to a PC by RS232 with TIMESurf software, and can be printed on site. The standard TS100 inductive pickup has a 5 micrometre diamond stylus at a 90 degree angle, and optional pickups suit curved surfaces, small holes, deep grooves and right-angled access. The TIME Portable Roughness Tester TR3200 measures 140 x 52 x 48mm, weighs 440g and runs on a rechargeable Li-ion battery.
