The Elcometer 130 SSP Soluble Salt Profiler (E130-SP / E130-SPC) measures both the level and the density of soluble salts on a surface, working over four times faster than other Bresle equivalent methods. Soluble salt contamination left under a coating drives corrosion, blistering and premature failure, so locating and quantifying it before the first coat is applied protects the life of the coating system.
Multi-point conductivity sensors allow the Elcometer 130 SSP Soluble Salt Profiler to display salt concentration as a map, showing exactly where contamination lies and generating full-colour salt density maps in 2D or 3D. Each filter paper is the size of four Bresle patches, so a single test produces four Bresle equivalent readings in just over two minutes. Two surface cleanliness modes are available: the Elcometer 130 mode covering 0 to 50 micrograms per square centimetre, and the Bresle equivalent method mode covering 0 to 15 micrograms per square centimetre. Conductivity reads 0 to 6000 microsiemens per centimetre and 0 to 3000ppm, all to an accuracy of plus or minus 1 percent. Automatic temperature compensation keeps results accurate across climatic conditions, and impure water can be offset for repeatable readings.
The Elcometer 130 SSP Soluble Salt Profiler stores up to 3,500 reading sets in 1,000 batches and transmits wirelessly by Bluetooth or USB into an inspection application or the ElcoMaster Mobile App for instant report generation. Non-oxidising gold-plated contacts ensure lifetime performance, and the sealed unit is tough, waterproof and dust resistant to the equivalent of IP64, with a 6cm scratch and solvent resistant TFT display. It can be used in accordance with NSI 009-32, SSPC Guide 15 and the Bresle equivalent ISO 8502-9 test method. Used by coatings inspectors in marine and corrosion-protection work, it is supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised Elcometer distributor.

When to use the Elcometer 130 SSP Soluble Salt Profiler
You reach for the SSP when a flat salt reading is not enough and you need to see exactly where contamination sits on a blast-cleaned surface before coating. Its multi-point sensors sample a 110mm circle and build full colour salt density maps in 2D or 3D, over 4 times faster than other Bresle equivalent methods.
- 1Maps where the salt liesMulti-point conductivity sensors show the density and distribution of salt across the sample, so you can pinpoint a contaminated patch rather than re-blasting a whole area on a single high reading.
- 2Four readings in 2.5 minutesIt returns four Bresle equivalent readings in two and a half minutes, over 4 times faster than other Bresle methods, which keeps the inspection from becoming the bottleneck on a coating programme.
- 3Standards-backed reportingIt conforms to NSI 009-32, SSPC Guide 15 and ISO 8502-9 and sends data over Bluetooth or USB into ElcoMaster for instant reports, giving defensible evidence for marine and infrastructure contracts.

Test Method
Test Method
Test Method
1. Wearing clean disposable gloves (supplied), fill a syringe with precisely 1.6ml of deionised water.
2. Using tweezers, remove a filter paper from the pack and place it on the cleaned, non-labelled side of the magnetic disc supplied.
3. Disperse the water from the syringe, evenly across the whole of the filter paper and remove any bubbles from under the paper.
4. Place the magnetic disc, with wetted paper face down on to the area under test, pressing firmly into any contours or irregularities and start the 2-minute timer on the gauge.
5. After two minutes, carefully remove the filter paper and magnetic disc from the test surface and place on to the measurement electrodes.
6. As each filter paper remains on the surface for two minutes, multiple tests can be undertaken at the same time, reducing inspection times further.
7. Close the lid, ensuring that the magnetic catch is fully engaged, the gauge will begin measuring.
8. The reading will be displayed on screen in the chosen display mode.
9. Place the filter paper in a resealable bag (supplied), if required for further analysis.
