The Elcometer 139 Amine Blush Swab Test Kit (E139-A) is a rapid colorimetric test for the quick identification of amine blush (carbamates) on the surface of coatings, using surface swabs. When amine-cured epoxy resin coatings are used in a multi-layer system and the original coating cures in low ambient temperature or high humidity, amine blush can develop. Left in place, it leads to inter-coat adhesion failures when the film is re-coated, so identifying it before applying the next layer prevents adhesion problems and the re-work that follows.

The Elcometer 139 Amine Blush Swab Test Kit works by a visual colour change: a swab is taken from the coating surface, and the presence of amine blush is indicated by a change in colour of the test solution compared against a control sample. The result determines whether amine blush is or is not present, allowing the inspector to decide whether the surface needs cleaning before re-coating. Using swabs rather than chips means the coating is tested in place without removing material.

The Elcometer 139 Amine Blush Swab Test Kit measures 172 by 110 by 100mm and weighs 350g, and is supplied with buffer solution sampler tubes, diluent solutions, test reagents, swab solution, cotton swabs, swab templates and pipettes to run the test.
