Top Hex 4 Channel Cathodic Disbondment Tester with touchscreen and four test channels
About this product

Cathodic disbondment testing is a critical accelerated lifespan test used to evaluate coatings on underground metal pipelines. The Top Hex Cathodic Disbondment Tester allows these tests to be carried out in the laboratory to evaluate the performance of barrier coatings on pipeline samples, and supports a wide range of international test standards.

The Top Hex Cathodic Disbondment Tester is available in 4 channel and 16 channel versions. Each channel runs an independent test, all simultaneously, with data logged to non-volatile flash memory within the unit. Tests can be configured via the built-in graphical touchscreen or through the CDT PC software, which is also used to extract the data.

Every Top Hex tester is manufactured in-house in the UK. All Top Hex products are provided with a one year warranty, and Top Hex offers a lifetime repair guarantee on equipment that is out of warranty.

A cathodic disbondment tester for accelerated lifespan testing of barrier coatings on pipeline samples, available in 4 channel and 16 channel versions. Each channel runs an independent test, all simultaneously, with data logged to non-volatile memory and extracted using the CDT PC software.

  • Constant voltage testing: the applied voltage is adjusted automatically to maintain a constant reference voltage (e.g. 1.5V) within a defined tolerance (commonly +/-5mV).
  • Constant current testing: the applied voltage is adjusted automatically to maintain the required constant current.
  • Manual test mode, constant voltage or constant current.
  • Test duration up to 999 days, or continuous.
  • Date and time, reference voltage and current logged to non-volatile memory for every test.
  • Tests resume automatically after a power interruption, with the event recorded in the log.
  • Protected against over-voltage, over-current and short circuit, with tests paused automatically on a fault.
  • 4.2" graphic display with touchscreen.
  • CDT PC software over Ethernet, connects to an unlimited number of testers and exports data as CSV.
  • Optional 32-TC temperature logging module for the 16 channel model: two thermocouple inputs per test channel, time-stamped alongside the test data.

When to choose the Top Hex Cathodic Disbondment Tester

Both the 4 channel and 16 channel versions suit accredited pipeline coating testing on a lab bench, over a long unattended test. Which one to choose comes down to how many samples run at once.

  • 1
Testing to a named pipeline coating standard
The Top Hex Cathodic Disbondment Tester is built to a wide range of standards for cathodic disbondment testing, including AMPP/NACE TM0115, ASTM G8, and equivalent ISO, DIN, CSA and BS standards. Where a customer's specification calls for accredited disbondment testing on pipeline coatings, this is the right kind of instrument, not a general adhesion or corrosion tester.
  • 2
Running several samples at once, unattended, over a long test
Each channel runs an independent test simultaneously, and a test can run for up to 999 days or continuously, with automatic resume after a power cut. This suits a lab that needs to run multiple coating samples through a long accelerated-lifespan test without watching over it constantly.
  • 3
Matching channel count to your test load
The 4 Channel CDT suits up to 4 simultaneous samples; the 16 Channel CDT suits up to 16, and is the only one that takes the optional 32-TC temperature logging module. Choose based on how many samples run at once and whether temperature logging alongside the test data matters.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Top Hex Cathodic Disbondment Tester do?

The Top Hex Cathodic Disbondment Tester runs accelerated lifespan tests on barrier coatings for underground pipelines. Independent channels test samples simultaneously, and data is logged to non-volatile memory for extraction with the CDT PC software.

What is the difference between the 4 channel and 16 channel versions?

The 4 Channel CDT runs 4 samples at once; the 16 Channel CDT runs 16. The 16 channel version is also the only one that takes the optional 32-TC temperature logging module.

What standards does it test to?

AMPP/NACE TM0115, ASTM G8, ASTM G42, AS 4352, BS 3900-F11, CSA Z245.20, Z245.21 and Z245.22, DIN 30670 and 30678, and ISO 15711 and 21809-1, -2 and -3.

How long can a test run?

Up to 999 days, or continuously. If power is interrupted, the test resumes automatically and the event is recorded in the log.

How is the tester configured and monitored?

Through the built-in 4.2 inch touchscreen, or the CDT PC software over Ethernet, which can connect to an unlimited number of testers and exports data as a CSV file.

What protects the tester against a fault?

The Top Hex Cathodic Disbondment Tester is protected against over-voltage, over-current and short circuit, and pauses the test automatically with an entry in the event log.
