About this product

The Elcometer 5750 Taber Linear Abraser (part number ST985750) is an abrasion tester that uses a free-floating head to follow the contours of the sample, making it suited to abrasion testing on flat or curved surfaces. It can also be used as a scratch tool with the scratch kit accessory. Abrasion and scratch resistance determine how a finish holds up to wear in service; a linear abraser that tracks curved profiles lets laboratories test real component shapes rather than being limited to flat panels.

The Elcometer 5750 Taber® Linear Abraser uses Wearasers, abrasive media the size and shape of a pencil eraser made from the same Taber abrasive grades used on the rotary abrasers, simulating real-life wear conditions. Abrasion media, stroke length, load and stroke speed are all user-defined to meet specific test requirements. Stroke lengths of 12.7, 25, 76 and 102mm are available, with variable stroke speed from 2 to 75 cycles per minute and preset speed buttons for 2, 15, 25, 30, 40 and 60 cycles per minute. Load is variable from 350 to 2100g with optional weights, and a stainless steel collet holds vitrified or resilient Wearasers.

The Elcometer 5750 Taber® Linear Abraser (230V 50Hz) measures 208 x 228 x 279mm and weighs 10kg. It can be used in accordance with AATCC Method 8, ASTM D 2197, ASTM D 5178, ASTM D 6279, ASTM F1319, ISO 105-X12 and JIS L 0849. Used in coatings, materials and finish durability testing, it is supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised Elcometer distributor.

When to use the Elcometer 5750 Taber Linear Abraser

Use the 5750 when the sample you must abrasion test is flat or curved rather than only flat. A free floating head follows the contours of the part, and a scratch kit accessory turns the same machine into a scratch tester. It suits labs testing shaped or three dimensional parts that a rotary abraser cannot sit on cleanly.

  • 1
    Follows flat or curved surfaces
The free floating head tracks the contour of the sample, so curved or shaped parts can be tested without a flat coupon being cut first.
  • 2
    Doubles as a scratch tool
With the scratch kit accessory the same instrument runs scratch tests, so one machine covers two test types in a busy lab.
  • 3
    Adjustable stroke and load
Variable stroke lengths, preset and variable speeds and a 350 to 2100g load range let you match the test to the standard and material rather than to a fixed setting.
