The Elcometer 1510 Conical Mandrel Bend Tester (K0001510M001) determines the effects of bending on the elasticity, adhesion and elongation properties of cured coatings on sheet metal.

A coating must tolerate the forming and flexing its substrate undergoes, and a conical mandrel lets a single bend reveal the point at which the coating starts to crack. The frame carries a bending lever with a roller that pivots on a steel conical mandrel with a diameter from 3.2 to 38.1mm. Because the diameter varies along the cone, a specimen can be bent over part of or the entire length of the mandrel and the resulting cracks corresponding to different test diameters are observed in a single operation. A graduated scale indicates the mandrel diameter in both millimetres and inches, which makes it useful alongside a cylindrical mandrel for identifying where to focus more detailed testing.

Machined from a solid block of steel, the construction resists wear for a long service life, and a large anodised base that can be fixed to a workstation keeps the Elcometer 1510 Conical Mandrel Bend Tester stable during testing.
