The Elcometer 4695 Opacity Charts (part numbers K0004695M003, K0004695M203, K0004695M004, K0004695M006, K0004695M206, K0004695M015 and K0004695M215) are Leneta test charts whose test pattern is a simple combination of large black and white areas, used to test the hiding power of an applied coating.
Hiding power determines whether a coating obscures the surface beneath it at its intended film thickness, which affects coverage, the number of coats and the evenness of the finish. The large black and white areas on these charts are sized for wider aperture reflectance instruments as well as for visual opacity and colour observations, so the same drawdown can support both instrumental and visual assessment.
The charts are made from naturally bright, non-fluorescent white paper and contain no optical brighteners that could affect instrumental colour measurements. Four forms are available: Leneta Chart 2A (140 x 254 mm, 2.72 kg per box, 250 per box, 6 boxes per case); Leneta Chart 2C (194 x 260 mm, 4.08 kg, 250 per box, 4 boxes per case); Leneta Chart 3B (194 x 289 mm, 4.08 kg, 250 per box, 4 boxes per case); and Leneta Chart 5C (194 x 260 mm, 4.08 kg, 250 per box, 4 boxes per case). The charts can be used with the Elcometer 4340 Motorised Film Applicator.
They can be used in accordance with AS/NZS 1580.213.1, ASTM D344, ASTM D2805, ASTM D2486, ASTM D5150, ASTM D6441, BS 3900-D4, DIN 53162-2, FTMS 141 4121 and ISO 2814. The Elcometer 4695 Opacity Charts are supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised Elcometer distributor.
