About this product

The Elcometer 6910/3 Setaflash 'Series 3' Active-Cool Closed Cup Tester (part number K6910M013) is a portable flash point instrument built to carry out flash/no flash tests rapidly and to determine the flash point of liquids and semi-solids in the 10 degrees C to 135 degrees C range. It offers the same features as the Elcometer 6910/1 but is fitted with a cup suitable for testing corrosive samples. Flash point is the lowest temperature at which a sample gives off enough vapour to ignite, and a reliable, repeatable value underpins the correct classification, transport and storage of flammable products.

The sample cup is heated and then cooled by Peltier cells, giving accurate and stable sub-ambient test temperatures and rapid temperature normalisation between tests. Flash point is detected automatically by a thermally activated detector, which reduces the risk of operator error and limits exposure to fumes during a test. Two test modes are available, Flash/No Flash and Ramp, with a 2 degrees C/min ramp rate. A rechargeable gas tank with on/off switch and fine adjustment is integral to the Elcometer 6910/3 Setaflash 'Series 3' Active-Cool Closed Cup Tester.

Sample size is 2ml for flash points up to 100 degrees C and 4ml above that, with test duration of 1 minute below 100 degrees C, 2 minutes above, or a user-set 1 to 99 minutes. The cup uses a corrosion resistant steel insert. The instrument measures 195 x 295 x 140mm and weighs 3kg. It can be used in accordance with ASTM D1655, ASTM D3278, ASTM D3828, ASTM E502, BS 2000-523, CLP Regulations EC No 1272/2008, DEF STAN 91-91, EPA 1020 A and B, ISO 3679, ISO 3680 and UN Class 3 Non-viscous Flammable Liquids. Used in fuels, coatings and chemical testing, it is supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised distributor.

Frequently asked questions

When should I use the Elcometer 6910/3 instead of a standard Setaflash?

The 6910/3 has a corrosion-resistant steel cup, making it suitable for testing corrosive samples that would damage a standard tester.

What sample volumes are required for the Setaflash Series 3?

Sample volume depends on the expected flash point. Use 2ml for flash points up to 100°C, and 4ml for flash points above 100°C.

How long does a flash point test take?

Standard tests run for 1 minute below 100°C or 2 minutes above 100°C. You can also set custom durations between 1 and 99 minutes.

What test modes does the Series 3 support?

Both Rapid Equilibrium and Ramp test modes are available, allowing you to select the approach that suits your specific testing requirements.

Can I configure test parameters to my specifications?

The ramp rate is fixed at 2°C/min. Test duration is flexible, ranging from 1 to 99 minutes depending on your needs.
