About this product

BEVS 1306 Intelligent Pendulum Hardness Tester consists of measuring the damping time of a pendulum (K/P) oscillating on a test surface to indicate the hardness. It decreases faster on softer medium. The two pendulums are of the same principle but detailed parameter is different.

The BEVS 1306 Intelligent Pendulum Hardness Tester has a series of intelligent functions that automatically identify the level condition before testing, automatically warn, automatically monitor vibration level, and check whether the temperature and humidity of the environment meet the test requirements. It ensures a high precision result and eliminating the error caused by human or environment.

BEVS 1306 Intelligent Pendulum Hardness Tester is the best instrument to measuring the hardness for universities, scientific research and QC, especially in the development and application of automotive coatings.

When to use the BEVS 1306 Intelligent Pendulum Hardness Tester

Choose the BEVS 1306 when a specification calls for a Persoz or König pendulum hardness test, then pick the model by which pendulum your method names.

  • 1
A pendulum damping test to ISO 1522 or ASTM D4366
Hardness is read from the damping time of a pendulum oscillating on the coating, which decreases faster on a softer film. Where a specification calls for a Persoz or König pendulum test, a pencil or scratch tester does not give the same result. The BEVS 1306 also conforms to NF T30-016, BS 3900 E5 and DIN 53157.
  • 2
Persoz, König or both, chosen by model
The two pendulums work on the same principle but their parameters differ. The Persoz pendulum weighs 500 g, swings from 12° to 4° and gives 430 ± 10 s on the glass plate. The König pendulum weighs 200 g, swings from 6° to 3° and gives 250 ± 10 s. The BEVS 1306 comes with both, the BEVS 1306/1 with the König (K) pendulum and the BEVS 1306/2 with the Persoz (P) pendulum, so order the one your test method names, or the BEVS 1306 if you work to both.
  • 3
Results not thrown off by the operator or the room
Pendulum results are sensitive to level, vibration, temperature and humidity. Before testing, the BEVS 1306 identifies the level condition, monitors the vibration level and warns, and checks whether the temperature and humidity meet the test requirements. It also identifies the pendulum fitted and runs the test automatically, which suits universities, scientific research and QC, especially in the development of automotive coatings.

Frequently asked questions

How does the BEVS 1306 Intelligent Pendulum Hardness Tester measure coating hardness?

The BEVS 1306 measures the damping time of a pendulum (K/P) oscillating on a test surface to indicate the hardness. The damping time decreases faster on a softer medium.

What is the difference between the Persoz and König pendulums?

The two pendulums are of the same principle but the detailed parameters are different. The Persoz pendulum weighs 500 ± 0.1 g with an 8 mm ball, a deflection from 12° to 4° and an oscillation period of 1 ± 0.01 s. The König pendulum weighs 200 ± 0.2 g with a 5 mm ball, a deflection from 6° to 3° and an oscillation period of 1.4 ± 0.02 s.

Which standards does the BEVS 1306 conform to?

ISO 1522, ASTM D4366, NF T30-016, BS 3900 E5 and DIN 53157.

Can I buy the BEVS 1306 with only one pendulum?

Yes. The BEVS 1306/1 is supplied with the K (König) pendulum and the BEVS 1306/2 with the P (Persoz) pendulum, while the BEVS 1306 has both. Spare pendulums are the BEVS 1306/P/001 K Pendulum and the BEVS 1306/P/002 P Pendulum.

What readings should the pendulums give on the glass plate?

The Persoz pendulum gives a damping time of 430 ± 10 s and 430 ± 10 oscillations on the glass plate. The König pendulum gives a damping time of 250 ± 10 s and 172 to 185 oscillations.

What power and test conditions does the BEVS 1306 need?

The BEVS 1306 runs on 100 to 240 V (50/60 Hz) with a maximum power of 45 W, and the environmental temperature and humidity are 10 to 35 °C and 80% RH. The adjustment levelling range is 0 to 3°. Before testing, the BEVS 1306 automatically identifies the level condition, monitors the vibration level and checks whether the temperature and humidity of the environment meet the test requirements.
