Dakota Bolt Tension Monitor Transducers are a full range of ultrasonic probes that work with Dakota's BT1-DL and BT2-D bolt tension monitors to measure the actual elongation produced when a threaded fastener is tightened. Torque-based tightening is affected by friction and thread condition, so two bolts torqued identically can carry very different loads. Measuring elongation removes that uncertainty and gives a direct reading of the clamp force on each fastener.
The transducers work by sending an ultrasonic pulse along the fastener and measuring the change in its length under load. Within the elastic limit of the fastener, that change in length is proportional to the applied load, so knowing the physical properties of the fastener allows the load to be calculated from the measured elongation. The range covers 2.25MHz, 5.00MHz and 10.00MHz frequencies in single element contact and single element magnetic configurations, with probe diameters from 1/8 inch up to 3/4 inch and Microdot connection.
Magnetic versions hold themselves to the bolt head, while non-magnetic contact types use finger tip and slim finger tip styles for tight access. Damping is specified per part: R for resolution damped, S for standard undamped and H for highly damped. These transducers are used in bolted assembly and structural fastening work across sectors such as wind energy, automotive, bridges and heavy structures. Supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised distributor.
Dakota Bolt Tension Monitor Transducers
Dakota offer a full range of Bolt Tension Monitor Transducers to ultrasonically measure the actual elongation produced by tightening a threaded fastener. The Dakota Bolt Tension Monitors measure the change in length of a fastener when a load is applied to the fastener. Within the elastic limit of the fastener, the change of length is proportional to the load applied, and therefore by measuring the change of length and knowing the physical properties of the fastener, the load on the fastener can be calculated.

Frequently asked questions
How do Dakota Bolt Tension Monitor Transducers measure fastener load?
They ultrasonically measure the elongation produced when a threaded fastener is tightened. Within the fastener's elastic limit, elongation is proportional to the applied load, so measuring the length change and knowing the fastener's physical properties lets you calculate the actual tension on the bolt.
What is the difference between the Single Element Contact and Single Element Magnetic transducers in this range?
Single Element Contact transducers use a Finger Tip or Finger Tip Slim probe characteristic, while Single Element Magnetic transducers use a Standard probe characteristic. Both element types are available at 2.25MHz, 5.00MHz and 10.00MHz across a range of probe diameters, so choose the element type that suits your fastener access.
What probe diameter do I need for my bolt?
Probe diameters across the range span from 1/8 inch up to 3/4 inch, with each part number tied to a specific diameter and element type. Match the part number to your fastener diameter using the specification table before ordering.
Which frequency should I choose for a Dakota bolt tension transducer, 2.25MHz, 5.00MHz or 10.00MHz?
Probe diameter does not follow a single pattern by frequency across the range: 2.25MHz models cover 1/4 inch to 3/4 inch probes, 5.00MHz models cover 1/8 inch to 3/4 inch probes, and the listed 10.00MHz models cover 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch. Check the specification table for the exact diameter and element type available at your required frequency.
What connector and mounting options are available on these transducers?
All transducers in this range use Microdot connectors and mount in either a Top or Side configuration, depending on the part number. Every model listed is compatible with both the BT1-DL and BT2-D monitors.
