
Dakota Mini Angle Beam Potted Transducers are single element ultrasonic probes that introduce sound into a test piece at a fixed angle to produce shear wave measurements, used with Dakota FX70, FX71, FX80 and FX81 flaw detectors. Welds, tubes and pipes often cannot be examined with a straight beam because the defect of interest lies along the fusion line rather than directly under the probe. An angled shear wave reaches those areas, which is why angle beam transducers are the standard choice for weld and pipe inspection.
The Dakota Mini Angle Beam Potted Transducers have a durable cast housing and a compact form that suits general weld inspection along with tubes, pipes and smaller objects. They are available in fixed angles of 45 degrees, 60 degrees or 70 degrees and in frequencies of 2.25MHz, 5.00MHz and 10.00MHz, with probe diameters of 3/16 inch, 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch. All versions are medium damped and use a Microdot side connector. In use, the Dakota Mini Angle Beam Potted Transducers work together with the Trigonometry function of the gauge to report beam path, depth and surface distance to a flaw.
The fixed-angle range of the Dakota Mini Angle Beam Potted Transducers means an inspector can select the launch angle that best places the shear wave on the area of interest for a given weld or wall thickness. These Dakota Mini Angle Beam Potted Transducers are used in weld inspection and pipe and tube examination across fabrication and structural work.
