The Dakota PCX Precision Thickness Gauge (PTG), part number PCX8-DL, measures material thickness precisely on virtually any material, including thin sections where small variations matter. Precision thickness measurement is used in machining, forming and quality control, where confirming that a part sits within tight upper and lower limits prevents scrap and out-of-tolerance components reaching the next process.
The Dakota PCX Precision Thickness Gauge has three measurement modes: Interface Echo (IE) for 1.65 to 25.40mm, Echo Echo (EE) for 0.15 to 10.15mm, and Plastic Mode (PLAS) for very thin plastics from 0.15 to 5.00mm using a graphite delay line. Accuracy reaches up to 1%, with IE held to 0.015mm between 1.65 and 2.99mm. Reading resolution of the Dakota PCX Precision Thickness Gauge is user selectable at 0.1mm or 0.01mm and the measurement rate at 4, 8 or 16 readings per second, with a Scan Mode for covering larger areas. User-definable upper and lower limits give audible and visual pass/fail warnings, turning the reading and limit icon red and sounding the alarm when a value falls outside tolerance.
Calibration options for the Dakota PCX Precision Thickness Gauge include 1-Point, 2-Point, velocity and a choice of 39 preset materials such as aluminium, steel, stainless steel, PVC and polystyrene, with three programmable calibration memories. Up to 100,000 readings store in up to 1,000 sequential or grid batches, and data outputs over USB or Bluetooth to DakMaster software for instant reporting. The Dakota PCX Precision Thickness Gauge weighs 210g, runs on two AA batteries for 15 hours alkaline or 28 hours lithium, carries an IP64 rating and operates from -10 to 50°C. Supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised Dakota distributor.

Frequently asked questions
When do I use Echo-Echo versus Interface-Echo mode on the PCX8-DL?
Interface-Echo measures coatings and thicker materials (1.65-25.40mm); Echo-Echo handles uncoated metals and thin sections down to 0.15mm; Plastic Mode covers polymers to 5.00mm. Choose the mode based on your material type and thickness range.
What accuracy does the PCX8-DL deliver across different thicknesses?
Interface-Echo gives ±0.015mm on thin sections (1.65-2.99mm) and ±0.5% on thicker readings. Echo-Echo holds ±1% accuracy. Plastic Mode offers ±0.015mm to 2.99mm, then ±0.5%. Verify your thickness range against these tolerances.
Is the PCX8-DL tough enough for shop-floor and field work?
It meets IP64 protection against dust and water, operates -10 to 50°C, and weighs just 210g without transducer. Alkaline batteries last 15 hours; lithium lasts 28 hours. Built for portable, rugged deployment.
How do I export readings from the PCX8-DL for QC records?
The gauge logs all readings with date and time stamps and exports via USB or Bluetooth to PCs, Android, and iOS devices. DakMaster software handles batch review, statistics (mean, standard deviation, count), and data output for traceability.
What calibration options does the PCX8-DL support?
One-point and two-point calibration using zero discs or known thickness standards. Lock calibration with optional PIN, set up to 40 audible and visual pass/fail warnings, and store three separate calibration memories for quick profile switching.
Can I choose different measurement resolutions?
Yes. Select lo resolution (0.1mm) or hi resolution (0.01mm). The display also shows run charts and B-Scan cross-sections for visual verification alongside numerical readings.
