The Dakota PMX High Penetration Thickness Gauge (HPX DL+), part number Z-225-0002, is an ultrasonic precision thickness gauge built to measure material types that defeat standard gauges. With multiple high voltage pulser options and filters tuned for lower frequency transducers, it covers materials such as fibreglass, carbon fibre, cast metals, rubber, high density polyethylene (HDPE), fibre reinforced plastic (FRP), lead, and all steels and aluminiums.
Many of these materials are highly attenuating, so an ultrasonic pulse loses energy before it returns a clean echo. The high voltage pulsers and tuned low frequency filters drive enough energy through the part to recover a reliable reading. The Dakota PMX High Penetration Thickness Gauge measures from 1.27 to 30500mm for pulse-echo contact on steel, with selectable resolution of +/- 0.1mm or +/- 0.01mm. Pulser options cover Spike at 200 volt, Square Wave at 400 volt and Tone Burst at 400 volt, each adjustable for pulse width and voltage, with manual or Automatic Gain Control across a 110dB range.
Display modes include digits, B-Scan cross section, scan bar and A-Scan with rectified and full waveform (RF) options. A 4GB SD card stores sequential and grid data logs, with 64 user-definable calibration setups and three adjustable gates. Manual measurement runs at 8 readings per second and scan mode at 250. USB-C connects to a PC or Apple, with free Windows and OSX reporting software.
Used in precision machining, aerospace composites, automotive and thin plastics work. Supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised Dakota distributor.
