Dakota Shear Wave Dual Transducers are dual element angle beam probes used with Dakota ultrasonic flaw detectors to find small, near surface cracks and to inspect welds. Their high near surface resolution addresses a known limit of single element probes, where the dead zone immediately under the surface can hide shallow flaws that single element transducers cannot resolve.
Each transducer carries separate transmit and receive elements potted in a durable cast housing, and the wedge angle directs the sound into the material at a fixed angle to generate shear waves. The range of the Dakota Shear Wave Dual Transducers is available in 45 degrees, 60 degrees and 70 degrees, with the angle set within the part number by replacing the ## digits, for example 45 for the 45 degree probe. Probe diameters cover 1/4 x 1/4, 1/4 x 3/8, 3/8 x 3/8 and 1/2 x 1/2 inch, in 1.00MHz, 2.25MHz and 5.00MHz frequencies. The 1.00MHz units use a composite element, the higher frequency units a standard element, and all are medium damped. Connector options include microdot and end fittings, and the Dakota Shear Wave Dual Transducers suit the FX70, FX71, FX80 and FX81 gauges. The Dakota Shear Wave Dual Transducers are used in conjunction with the gauge's trigonometry function, which calculates flaw position from the beam angle.
Typical users are weld inspectors and non-destructive testing technicians working in fabrication, structural and pressure equipment inspection. Dakota Shear Wave Dual Transducers are supplied in South Africa by BAMR, the country's authorised distributor.
Dakota Shear Wave Dual Transducers
Shear Wave Dual Transducers are dual element transducers with high near surface resolution, ideal for detecting small, near surface cracks and weld inspection. Potted in durable cast housing, the transducers are available in a variety of angles, including 45°, 60° or 70°, for producing the required shear waves. The Shear Wave Dual Transducers are used in conjunction with the 'Trigonometry' function of the gauge.
