About this product

The Elcometer FD700 Mini Flaw Detector is a hand-held ultrasonic instrument that combines flaw detection with material thickness measurement, available in two models: the FD700+ and the data-logging FD700DL+. It is used to find internal defects such as cracks, voids and inclusions in welds and metal components and to measure remaining wall thickness, the information that decides whether a part is fit for service or must be repaired or replaced.

Ultrasound is pulsed into the material and the Elcometer FD700 Mini Flaw Detector times and analyses the returning echoes. The FD700 offers flaw detection modes including TRIG, DAC, AWS, TCG, Zero Crossing, Flank and Peak, with the time corrected gain feature automatically compensating for sound attenuation through the material. Measurement modes cover Pulse Echo, temperature-compensated PE, Echo Echo ThruPaint, EEV, coating thickness and pulse echo coating thickness, with a velocity calibration range of 256 to 16,000 m/s, measurement accuracy and resolution of 0.01mm down to 0.001mm, and a pulse echo range reaching up to 30,480mm on a single contact. Three fully adjustable gates, automatic probe recognition, probe zero and temperature compensation speed up setup.

A colour VGA AMOLED display (320 x 240 pixels) stays readable in sunlight. The FD700DL+ adds 4GB of internal memory with sequential and grid logging, OBSTRUCT marking for inaccessible locations, and download to ElcoMaster data management software. Used in NDT, weld inspection and corrosion monitoring across fabrication, refineries and marine work, it is supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised Elcometer distributor.
