About this product

The Telaire T8700 Relative Humidity and Temperature Transmitter (part numbers T8700-E, T8700-E-D, T8700 and T8700-D) is a precision humidity and temperature transmitter for HVAC control applications. Accurate, stable humidity and temperature measurement is the basis for controlling ventilation, comfort and condensation risk in conditioned spaces, and inaccurate sensing leads to wasted energy and poor air quality.

The transmitter uses Amphenol Advanced Sensors' own ChipCap sensor, which can be replaced in the field rather than returning the whole unit for recalibration. The capacitive polymer relative humidity element covers 0% to 99% RH non-condensing with an accuracy of plus or minus 2.5% RH from 20 to 80% RH (plus or minus 3.5% RH above 80%). Temperature is read both by an active signal-conditioned output, accurate to plus or minus 0.8 degrees C at 22 degrees C over 0 to 50 degrees C, and by a standard passive NTC 10 K thermistor accurate to plus or minus 1 degrees C between 15 and 35 degrees C.

Analog outputs of 0 to 5 V, 0 to 10 V and 4 to 20 mA are user selectable. Power is 18 to 30 VAC RMS or 18 to 42 VDC with typical consumption of 0.7 W, and a two-piece terminal block simplifies wiring. The Telaire T8700 Relative Humidity & Temperature Transmitter is available in European and US enclosure sizes, in display and non-display versions, is CE and RoHS compliant and carries a two-year warranty. Supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised distributor.

Frequently asked questions

Can I replace the sensor without returning the transmitter for recalibration?

Yes. The T8700 uses a field-replaceable ChipCap sensor from Amphenol Advanced Sensors. You can swap it on site, eliminating downtime and the need to return the complete transmitter.

What power supply options does the T8700 accept?

It runs on 18 to 30 VAC RMS (50 or 60 Hz) or 18 to 42 VDC with reverse polarity protection. Typical power consumption is 0.7 W at 24V AC.

How accurate is the humidity measurement in typical operating ranges?

At 25°C, accuracy is ±2.5% RH across 20 to 80% RH, and ±3.5% RH above 80% RH. The capacitive polymer sensor covers 0 to 99% RH non-condensing.

Can I use this transmitter in condensing environments?

No. The T8700 operates in non-condensing conditions only. Operating range is 0 to 50°C and 0 to 95% RH (non-condensing).

What certifications and standards does it meet?

The T8700 is CE marked and RoHS compliant. It meets UL94 5VA flammability classification for housing materials.

How does temperature affect the accuracy if the transmitter heats up?

Temperature dependence is 0.2% of full scale per degree Celsius. Active temperature accuracy is ±0.8°C at 22°C, with thermistor accuracy of ±1°C across 15 to 35°C.
