The Elcometer 207 and 207DL Precision Ultrasonic Gauge (part numbers C207---1 and C207DL---1) is a handheld ultrasonic thickness gauge built to measure thin materials accurately without cutting or sectioning the part. Wall thinning from corrosion or erosion in pipes, tanks and pressure equipment is a safety and integrity issue, and measuring it precisely on thin sections is where standard gauges struggle. The 207 series uses high-frequency precision transducers to read material thickness from 0.15 to 25.4mm, with an accuracy of plus or minus 0.02mm and a resolution of 0.002mm.

The gauge offers several measurement modes for different jobs. Interface-to-Echo mode covers 1.65 to 25.4mm; Echo-to-Echo mode reads materials as thin as 0.15mm while ignoring any applied coating; PLAS mode handles very thin plastics and needs a separate graphite delay line accessory. Differential mode shows the plus or minus deviation from a set nominal value, and Alarm mode triggers a red LED and buzzer if a reading falls below a preset minimum. The velocity range of 1250 to 10000m/s lets it work across cast iron, steels, plastic, glass and aluminium. The 207DL adds 1000-reading data logging and connects to ElcoMaster software.

It can be used in accordance with ASTM E 797 and EN 15317, the recognised standards for ultrasonic thickness measurement. Used in corrosion monitoring, inspection and quality control, the Elcometer 207 series is now discontinued.
