About this product

The Elcometer 208 and 208DL Ultrasonic Thickness Gauges (part numbers C208---1 and C208DL---1) are rugged handheld gauges that non-destructively measure the thickness of metal substrates, including through up to 2mm of an applied coating using Echo-to-Echo mode. Corrosion and erosion thin the walls of pipes, tanks and structural steel from the inside, where the loss cannot be seen, so a gauge that reads remaining metal thickness from one side, without removing the coating, is central to integrity inspection.

Measurement range is 0.63 to 500mm, narrowing to 2.54 to 25.4mm in Echo-to-Echo mode, with an accuracy of plus or minus 0.1mm, a resolution of 0.01mm and a velocity range of 1250 to 10000m/s. Scan mode captures up to 16 readings per second and records the minimum thickness found, useful for sweeping an area for the thinnest point. Alarm mode lights a red LED and sounds a buzzer when a reading falls below a set minimum. A wide range of transducers covers different materials and ranges, with a 5MHz high damped transducer (T92016967) for steel and a 7.5MHz version (T92016968) for aluminium, stainless steel and titanium. The 208DL adds 1000-reading data logging and ElcoMaster 2.0 software for reporting.

Both gauges can be used in accordance with ASTM E 797 and EN 15317, the recognised ultrasonic thickness measurement standards. Used in corrosion surveys, refineries and structural inspection, the Elcometer 208 series is now discontinued.
