About this product

The Elcometer NDT CG50 Corrosion Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge (part number CG50) is a handheld ultrasonic gauge that is calibrated on site by the user to give accurate thickness measurements across a wide variety of material substrates. This product has been discontinued; contact BAMR for a recommended replacement model.

Corrosion thins the walls of pipelines, tanks and metal structures from the inside, where the loss stays hidden until a wall is dangerously thin. The CG50 sends an ultrasonic pulse into the material and times the echo to calculate remaining thickness, letting inspectors track metal loss before it leads to failure. Its high speed scan mode takes 16 readings per second to sweep an area quickly for defects or the thinnest point, which suits pipelines and large surfaces. Differential mode lets the user set a nominal thickness so the gauge displays the plus or minus difference from that value, and the minimal thickness alarm illuminates a red LED and sounds an audible alarm when a reading falls below the user-defined target.

The gauge works in Pulse-Echo mode at 4 readings per second in manual mode over a measuring range of 0.63 to 500mm, with accuracy of plus or minus 0.01mm and resolution of 0.01mm. The velocity calibration range is 1250 to 10,000m/s, with single, two point and velocity calibration options. It uses a dual element transducer at 1 to 10MHz with automatic V-path correction. The aluminium case has gasket-sealed end caps and a waterproof membrane keypad, and runs up to 200 hours on 2 AA batteries. The CG50 was supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised Elcometer distributor.

Elcometer NDT CG50 Corrosion Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge - Discontinued

The Elcometer NDT CG50 Corrosion Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge is an easy to use, versatile corrosion thickness gauge, quickly calibrated on site by the user to give reliable, accurate thickness measurements on a wide variety of material substrates.

  • High speed scan mode Takes 16 readings per second allowing the user to quickly scan an area of material for defects or to identify its thinnest point, ideal for pipelines or large test surfaces.
  • Differential mode Allows the user to select a nominal thickness value; the gauge will then display the positive or negative (±) difference from the nominal value entered.
