About this product

The Elcometer 508 Push Off Adhesion Tester (part number F508-DD) is a Type III adhesion gauge that measures the pull-off adhesion of coatings on flat or curved surfaces, both concave and convex. Adhesion testing confirms that a coating is bonded strongly enough to its substrate to survive service; on assets such as tanks and pipelines, where surfaces are rarely flat, the push-off design with curved dolly options lets inspectors test adhesion directly on the real geometry.

A rotating crank handle applies smooth loading from 0 up to 25MPa, with a full-scale accuracy of 1.5% and a digital resolution of 0.01MPa over a 0 to 26MPa scale and 2 to 25MPa operating range. A quick-connect coupling attaches to the dolly, and the pin is pushed through the centre against the substrate to give accurate, repeatable results. The dollies for the Elcometer 508 Push Off Adhesion Tester have a 19.4mm outside diameter, 3.7mm inside diameter and 284mm squared area, and standard, convex and concave reusable stainless steel dollies are available. A backlit digital LCD reads in MPa or psi and a maximum hold feature displays the highest value reached.

Sealed, heavy duty and impact resistant to an IP65 equivalent rating, the Elcometer 508 Push Off Adhesion Tester is hand-held and fully portable at 1.7kg for the gauge (4.5kg as a kit), 290mm long with a 200mm coupling height, powered by two AA batteries. The Elcometer 508 Push Off Adhesion Tester can be used in accordance with ASTM D 4541 (Type III), ISO 16276-1 and NF T30-606. Suited to field adhesion testing in marine, refinery and pipeline coatings inspection, the Elcometer 508 Push Off Adhesion Tester is supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised Elcometer distributor.

When to use the Elcometer 508

Use the Elcometer 508 when you need to test adhesion on flat or curved surfaces, including concave and convex shapes. A rotating crank applies a smooth load up to 25MPa through reusable stainless steel dollies. It suits field adhesion work on tanks and pipelines where the surface is not flat.

  • 1
    Tests curved surfaces
It works on flat, concave and convex surfaces, so you can test tanks and pipelines that defeat a flat-only gauge.
  • 2
    Crank-applied smooth load
A rotating crank handle applies a smooth load from 0 to 25MPa, giving controlled loading by hand in the field.
  • 3
    Holds the peak value
Maximum hold displays the highest value reached, so you capture the failure point even when watching the surface.
  • 4
    Sealed and portable
Hand-held and rugged with dust and waterproofing to an IP65 equivalent rating, it suits on-site use in harsh environments.
