The Elcometer 112AL Punched Hexagonal Wet Film Combs (B112AL) are aluminium precision-formed combs that give a low-cost method of measuring the wet film thickness of a coating as it is applied. Measuring the film while it is still wet allows an applicator to confirm the right amount of coating is going on, before it cures, which is the simplest safeguard against an under- or over-applied film and the rework that follows when a coating misses its specification.

Each six-sided comb has teeth of stepped lengths along its edges. The Elcometer 112AL Punched Hexagonal Wet Film Comb is dipped into the wet film and removed, and the wet thickness reads as the value between the highest wet tooth and the lowest dry tooth. Depending on the comb, there are 24 or 36 measurement steps for added resolution, in ranges measuring up to 3000µm. The comb measures 75 x 65 x 1mm and weighs 90g, is reusable, and can be customised with a company logo.

It can be used in accordance with ASTM D 4414-A, AS/NZS 1580.107.3, BS 3900-C5-7B, ISO 2808-1A, ISO 2808-7B, JIS K 5600-1-7, NF T30-125, US NAVY PPI 63101-000 and US NAVY NSI 009-32, the recognised wet film thickness standards.
