The Elcometer Protective Coating Inspection Kit 2 is a packaged set of test equipment that lets an inspector assess a substrate before a coating is applied and then check the coating itself. Coating failures often trace back to conditions present before the paint went on: an unsuitable surface profile, the wrong climatic conditions, or contamination that was never measured. The kit groups the instruments needed to record these factors, along with coating thickness and adhesion, so the application proceeds on evidence rather than assumption.

The kit measurement parameters are surface profile, climatic conditions, coating thickness and adhesion. It is offered in a range of configurations, from YKIT-PROTECTIVE-1M up to 6M, with progressively more instrumentation. Core tools across the lower kits include the Elcometer 122 Testex replica tape, the Elcometer 124 thickness gauge, the Elcometer 116 whirling hygrometer with Elcometer 114 dewpoint calculator, the Elcometer 107 cross hatch cutter and the Elcometer 456 coating thickness gauge. Higher kits add the Elcometer 224 surface profile gauge, Elcometer 319 digital dewpoint meter, ElcoMaster software with USB cable, the Elcometer 138 Bresle salt kit, dust tape test kit, weld gauge, pictorial standards and, in the 6M kit, the Elcometer 270 pinhole detector.

The Elcometer Protective Coating Inspection Kit 2 conforms to a broad set of standards including ISO 2360, ISO 2409, ISO 2808 series, ISO 8503-5, ISO 19840, ASTM D 3359-B, ASTM D 4417-C, ASTM D 7091, SSPC PA 2, NACE RP0287, IMO MSC.215(82) and IMO MSC.244(83), covering coating thickness, surface profile, adhesion and climatic measurement methods. Carry case dimensions range from 456 x 384 x 110mm on the 1M up to 575 x 475 x 205mm on the larger kits. It is supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised Elcometer distributor.
