The HT 225A Concrete Hardness Tester (part number HT225A) is a rebound test hammer for the non-destructive testing of concrete structures, used to assess the compressive strength of in-place concrete. Conventional strength assessment requires cutting or coring samples; the rebound method tests large areas in a very short time at very low cost, and makes it straightforward to compare concrete quality between different sections of a structure.
The HT 225A Concrete Hardness Tester works by pressing the impact plunger against the concrete surface, which fires a percussion weight against the rear of the plunger and rebounds. The rebound depends on the hardness of the surface under test: the harder the surface, the higher the rebound. The maximum rebound is recorded on a scale, and that rebound number is converted to a compressive strength value using the conversion tables in the user manual. Because the conversion varies with test angle, values must be corrected for angles other than the standard horizontal direction. The HT 225A is comparable with the Schmidt Hammer Type N.
Specifications for the HT 225A Concrete Hardness Tester include a normal kinetic energy of 2.207J (0.225kgf.m), a 75mm punch advance for the impact hammer, an impact surface hardness of HRC59-63, a steel-anvil rating mean of 80 plus or minus 2, dimensions of 60 x 280mm and a weight of 1kg. The HT 225A Concrete Hardness Tester conforms to ISO 8045, ASTM C805, EN 12504-2, BS 1881:202, DIN 1048, NFP18-417 and UNI 9189. It is supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised distributor.
HT 225A Concrete Hardness Tester
The HT 225A Concrete Test Hammer is designed specifically for the non-destructive testing of concrete structures. This testing method has considerable advantages over conventional methods of assessing the compressive strength of concrete, in that large areas can be tested in a very short time, at a very low cost.
- Non-destructive testing method Large areas can be tested in a very short time, at a very low cost
- Rebound measurement technology The rebound is dependent upon the hardness of the surface under test; the harder the surface the higher the rebound
- Convertible results The rebound number can be converted to a compressive strength value via conversion tables contained in the user manual
- Angular corrections Values must be corrected for angles other than the standard horizontal direction
- Comparable with Schmidt Hammer Type N

When to use the HT 225A Concrete Hardness Tester
The HT 225A is a mechanical rebound test hammer for non-destructive testing of concrete structures, comparable with the Schmidt Hammer Type N. Reach for it when you need to survey large areas of concrete quickly and cheaply and read off a rebound number to estimate compressive strength.
- 1Cover large areas fastThe non-destructive method lets you test large areas in a short time at low cost, which suits broad acceptance checks across a structure.
- 2Rebound converts to strengthThe rebound number converts to a compressive strength value using the conversion tables in the manual, giving a usable estimate on the spot.
- 3Meets recognised standardsIt conforms to ISO 8045, ASTM C805, EN 12504-2, BS 1881:202 and others, so results stand up against the standard your job specifies.
- 4Schmidt Type N equivalentBeing comparable with the Schmidt Hammer Type N means it slots into established workflows that already reference that instrument.
