The Leica DD220 and DD230 Smart Utility Locators (part numbers DD220 SMART and DD230 SMART) form a complete detection solution for locating buried cables and pipes, supplied with DX Shield software and signal transmitters. For utility professionals and anyone breaking ground, detecting underground assets before excavation prevents operator injury, asset damage and the costs that follow, while recorded site activity supports managed safety regimes.
The Leica DD220 uses digital signal processing to identify underground assets deeper, faster and more accurately, and records all site usage activities. Onboard software maps buried utilities, and user logs and data transfer via a hosted service for multiple users across multiple sites. The latest Bluetooth technology gives a wire-free connection to mobile devices, and an integrated u-blox GPS receiver tags positions with a horizontal accuracy of around 2.5m autonomous or 2.0m with SBAS. Both detect power at 50/60Hz, radio from 15kHz to 60kHz, have an auto mode, 8GB of internal memory, an IP66 rating, operate from -20 degrees C to +50 degrees C, run on a 7.4V rechargeable Li-Ion battery for 15 hours and weigh 2.7kg. Depth accuracy of the Leica DD220 is 5 percent.
The models differ in trace frequencies and depth. The DD220 SMART transmits at 131kHz, 33kHz and 8kHz, with line detection to 5m and sonde detection to 7m. The DD230 SMART adds 512Hz and 640Hz and extends line detection to 7m and sonde detection to 10m.
