The Elcometer 148 pH Meter (H148-1) is a handheld instrument that measures both the acidity of liquids (pH) and their temperature using a single sensor.
In many processes pH must stay within a set range for the result to be correct, and because pH is temperature dependent, the temperature of the sample affects the reading. The Elcometer 148 addresses this with automatic temperature compensation, so like-for-like measurements can be taken and compared meaningfully. The Elcometer 148 displays pH and temperature simultaneously, has a hold and freeze function, and records the maximum and minimum readings over a series of tests.
The Elcometer 148 covers a pH range of 0 to 14pH with 0.01pH resolution and an accuracy of plus or minus 0.03pH. The Elcometer 148 measures temperature from 0 to 89 degrees C with 0.1 degree resolution and plus or minus 0.5 degree accuracy, switchable between degrees C and degrees F. Calibration is a three-point routine at 7pH, 4pH and 10.01pH, and the sensor condition is monitored after each calibration and can be replaced by the user. The unit is waterproof to IP57 and floats on water, has auto power off, runs on 4 x AAA batteries, measures 195 x 40 x 36mm and weighs 150g.
The Elcometer 148 conforms to ASTM E 70, the standard test method for pH of aqueous solutions using a glass electrode. Supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised distributor.

When to use the Elcometer 148 pH Meter
Use the Elcometer 148 when you need the pH of a liquid alongside its temperature from a single sensor, for example checking wash water or a solution during surface preparation. It is a simple handheld meter that holds and logs readings as you work, telling you whether a liquid sits within its acceptable acidity range.
- 1pH and temperature togetherIt displays pH and temperature at once from one sensor, so you capture both values without switching instruments or probes.
- 2Automatic temperature compensationAutomatic temperature compensation means readings taken at different liquid temperatures can be compared like for like rather than drifting with the warmth of the sample.
- 3Waterproof and floatsRated to IP57 and able to float, it survives a drop into the liquid being tested rather than being lost or damaged.

Frequently asked questions
What does the Elcometer 148 measure and over what range?
The Elcometer 148 measures both pH (0 to 14 pH) and temperature (0 to 89 degrees C) using a single sensor. Resolution is 0.01 pH and 0.1 degrees C; accuracy is plus or minus 0.03 pH and plus or minus 0.5 degrees C.
How is the Elcometer 148 calibrated?
Calibration is performed at three points: 7 pH, 4 pH, and 10.01 pH. Three-point calibration improves accuracy across the pH range compared to single-point calibration.
What power source does the Elcometer 148 use?
The 148 is powered by four AAA batteries. The instrument weighs 150 g and measures 195 x 40 x 36 mm, making it suitable for field use.
