The Elcometer 3505 Cube Film Applicator is a precision applicator used to lay down a controlled-thickness film stripe of paint or coating onto a test substrate for laboratory and quality control work. Applying coatings at a known, repeatable wet film thickness is essential when assessing properties such as drying time, opacity, levelling and adhesion, because results are only comparable if the film is laid down to the same dimensions each time.
Manufactured from hardened stainless steel, the applicator produces an accurate 12mm wide film stripe. Two models are available: the Elcometer 3505/1 (K0003505M001) applies a single stripe and has a total width of 26mm, while the Elcometer 3505/2 (K0003505M202) applies five stripes and has a total width of 146mm. Both cover a film thickness range of 30 to 1000μm. Each applicator is supplied with a set of nineteen thickness gauges from 30 to 1000μm to set and adjust the applied film thickness.
The Elcometer 3505 Cube Film Applicators can be used in accordance with ASTM D 823-E, which covers methods for producing films of uniform thickness, and ASTM D 1640-03, which covers drying, curing and film formation of coatings. They are used in coatings laboratories and quality control by formulators and inspectors preparing test panels. The Elcometer 3505 Cube Film Applicator is supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised distributor.
