The Elcometer 3525 and 3530 Adjustable Baker Film Applicators are stainless steel film applicators that let the user set the specific coating gap size required, producing either a uniform film or a film wedge. Fair, comparable testing of paints and similar liquids relies on samples of a known, repeatable thickness; an adjustable applicator lets a laboratory dial in the exact gap a test method calls for rather than being limited to fixed values.

The gap is set by the operator, and each applicator carries thickness markings down both sides for fast setup. Two gap-size ranges are offered: the Elcometer 3525 covers 0 to 100 microns and the Elcometer 3530 covers 0 to 250 microns. Both are available in 50, 75, 100, 150, 200 and 250 mm film widths (part numbers K0003525M001 to M006 for the 3525 and K0003530M001 to M006 for the 3530), so the film width can be matched to the substrate or test chart. The applicators can be used by hand or with the Elcometer 4340 Motorised Film Applicator for greater consistency.

They can be used in accordance with ASTM D 823-E, the standard practice for producing films of uniform thickness for test purposes. An optional calibration certificate is available. Used in paint and coatings laboratories, product development and quality control, they are supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised Elcometer distributor.
