The Elcometer Blasting Inspection Kits (part numbers YKIT-BLAST-1M and YKIT-BLAST-2M) are surface preparation inspection kits that bring together a range of equipment to test the surface profile and surface contamination of blasted profiles. Surface preparation governs whether a coating bonds and lasts: an incorrect profile or residual salts, dust and other contamination left on a blasted steel surface lead to early adhesion failure and corrosion, so these kits let an inspector verify blast equipment, surface assessment, profile and contamination before any coating is applied.
The kits combine instruments including the Elcometer 128 pictorial standards, the Elcometer 102 needle pressure gauge, the Elcometer 103 blast nozzle gauge, the Elcometer 125 surface comparator (grit and shot), the Elcometer 122 Testex tape with the Elcometer 124 Testex dial thickness gauge, the Elcometer 224 surface profile separate gauge (Model T) with standard separate probe, and contamination test equipment such as the Elcometer 142 dust tape test kit, the Elcometer 134 Chlor*Test surface, abrasive and water testing kits, the Elcometer 138 Bresle salt kit and the Elcometer 138/2 surface contamination kit, together with ElcoMaster data management software and USB cable. Kit 1 measures 495 x 420 x 175 mm and Kit 2 575 x 475 x 205 mm. An Elcometer 456 gauge and probe can also be supplied, ordered separately if required.
The kits can be used in accordance with a wide range of standards including AS 3894.5, AS 3894.6-A, -C and -D, ASTM D 2200, ASTM D 4417-A, -B and -C, BS 7079-C5, IMO MSC.215(82) and MSC.244(83), ISO 8501-1, ISO 8502-3, -5, -6 and -9, ISO 8503-1, -2 and -5, NACE RP0287, SANS 5772, SS 55900, SSPC Guide 15, SSPC VIS 1 to 5, and US Navy NSI 009-32 and PPI 63101-000. These standards cover blast cleanliness grades, profile measurement and soluble salt and dust assessment. Used by blasting and coatings inspectors in marine, refinery, structural steel and corrosion protection work, and supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised Elcometer distributor.

What is the difference between Blasting Inspection Kit 1 and Kit 2?
Kit 1 includes the Elcometer 125 surface comparators (grit and shot), Elcometer 122 Testex tape (coarse and extra coarse) and the Elcometer 124 Testex dial thickness gauge. Kit 2 instead includes the Elcometer 224 surface profile gauge with probe, the Elcometer 142 dust tape test kit, the Elcometer 138 Bresle salt kit, the Elcometer 138/2 surface contamination kit and ElcoMaster software with USB cable.
What surface contamination testing does each kit include?
Both kits include the Elcometer 134 Chlor*Test in three versions: surface testing, abrasive testing and water testing. Kit 2 additionally contains the Elcometer 138 Bresle salt kit and the Elcometer 138/2 surface contamination kit.
Does either kit include needle and nozzle pressure gauges?
Yes. Both Kit 1 and Kit 2 include the Elcometer 102 needle pressure gauge and the Elcometer 103 blast nozzle gauge.
What are the case dimensions for each kit?
