The Elcometer 2410 Standard Viscosity Oils for Calibration are reference oils of known viscosity used to check or certify the calibration of viscosity cups. A flow or dip cup is only as reliable as its calibration, and worn or damaged orifices drift over time; to check a cup, or to certify it for ISO purposes, a fluid of certified viscosity must be used in place of the test product so the measured drain time can be compared against a traceable reference.

Each oil has a specific drain time that depends on the cup type, such as Ford, Shell or Zahn, and the orifice or cup number in use. To check a cup, the appropriate oil is run through it in place of the sample and the drain time measured against the certified value. The range spans nominal viscosities from 20 to 34 cSt up to 600 to 1600 cSt at 25 degrees C, matched to specific cups: for example, the 20 to 34 cSt oil (K0002410M021) suits the Shell cup 2 and the Zahn dip cup 1, while higher-viscosity grades pair with larger orifices on Zahn, Shell, DIN, Ford/ASTM and ISO cups. Because each oil is tied to a specific cup and orifice, the supplied selection table is used to match the correct grade to the cup being checked. The Elcometer 2410 Standard Viscosity Oils for Calibration are supplied in half-litre bottles, with a certificate of calibration available for traceability.
