The SH-D Shore D Digital Durometer Hardness Tester (part number SH-D) measures the hardness of hard rubber and similar materials to ASTM-D-2240. Material hardness affects how a part wears, deforms and performs in service, so a consistent hardness reading confirms a batch meets specification and helps diagnose whether a component is too soft or too hard for its job. The Shore D scale covers harder materials than the Shore A scale, making this model suited to general hard rubber, hard resin, acryl, glass thermoplastics, printing plates and fibres.
The SH-D Shore D Digital Durometer Hardness Tester presses a sharp cone point indenter, SR 0.1 mm with a 30 degree included angle, into the surface under a force of 0 to 44.5 N, with a tip stroke of 2.5 mm. The SH-D Shore D Digital Durometer Hardness Tester reads across a measuring range of 0 to 100 HD with a resolution of 0.5 HD and an accuracy of plus or minus 1 HD, shown on a digital display for clear, intuitive reading. The simple structure and small, light body, weighing 0.5 kg, allow hand-held use, and the unit can also be mounted in a matching fixed cradle for set-load testing where greater repeatability is required.
Conforming to ASTM-D-2240, the standard test method for durometer hardness, the SH-D Shore D Digital Durometer Hardness Tester is used in rubber, plastics and materials quality control. It is supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised distributor.
SH-D Shore D Digital Durometer Hardness Tester
Shore digital rubber hardness tester is designed for testing the hardness of soft rubber, printer roller and other elastomer material (ASTM-D-2240). It has advantages of simple structure, convenient use, small body and light weight, intuitive readings. It can carry the hand-held measurements and can also be installed on the same type of fixed cradle which is matched with the set load test.
When to use the SH-D Shore D durometer
Use the SH-D when you need to measure the hardness of harder elastomers and plastics to ASTM D2240, such as hard rubber, hard resin, acrylic, thermoplastics and printing plates. Its sharp cone indenter and 0 to 100HD range cover the firmer end of the durometer scale.
- 1Built for the Shore D scaleThe sharp cone indenter and 0 to 100HD range, with a force up to 44.5N, are made for harder materials where a Shore A gauge would top out.
- 2Conforms to ASTM D2240Readings follow the recognised durometer standard, so results stand up in QC records and against customer specifications.
- 3Handheld or cradle mountedIt works hand-held for spot checks or fixed in a matching cradle with a set load test, giving more repeatable bench measurements when consistency matters.

Frequently asked questions
What materials is the SH-D Shore D durometer designed for?
The SH-D is designed for general hard rubber, hard resin, acrylic, glass thermoplastics, printing plates, and fibres. It complies with ASTM D-2240 for Shore D hardness testing.
What is the measuring range and accuracy of the SH-D?
The SH-D measures 0 to 100 HD with a resolution of 0.5 HD and accuracy of plus or minus 1 HD. The applied force range is 0 to 44.5 N.
What indenter geometry does the SH-D use?
The SH-D uses a sharp cone point indenter with a tip radius of 0.1 mm and a 30-degree included angle. Tip stroke is 2.5 mm.
Can the SH-D be used with a test stand?
Yes. In addition to hand-held use, the SH-D can be installed in a compatible fixed cradle with a set load test to improve repeatability on flat samples.
