
The Elcometer 2350 to 2354 Viscosity Flow Cups are flow cups in anodised aluminium with a stainless steel orifice, used to measure the consistency of paints, varnishes and similar products. Viscosity governs how a coating flows, levels and sprays, so a quick consistency check keeps each batch within specification and prevents application and finish defects on the line or in the field. The measured kinematic viscosity is expressed in seconds of flow time, and where the relevant standard gives a conversion method the flow time can be converted into centistokes (cSt).
The range covers the main national and international cup standards, so a user can work to the method their specification calls for. The Elcometer 2350 is the DIN cup, the 2351 the Ford/ASTM cup, the 2352 the AFNOR cup, the 2353 the ISO cup and the 2354 the BS cup, each available in several orifice sizes covering different viscosity ranges. The Ford/ASTM cups, for example, run from cup 1 (1.90mm orifice) up to cup 5 (5.20mm, 200 to 1200 cSt), while the ISO cups run from 3mm to 8mm. Cups can be ordered with a calibration certificate for traceability and assurance that each cup has been individually tested to standard, with UKAS-traceable accredited certificates available on certain ISO and BS cups. Cups are supplied separately or with an adjustable stand that includes a precision level and an overflow glass draw plate, and the stand can take a flow jacket or thermojacket for temperature control.
The 2351 conforms to ASTM D1200 and the 2353 to ASTM D 5125 and ISO 2431. Used in paint and coating production for viscosity control, these cups are supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised Elcometer distributor.
