The Elcometer 3570 Micrometric Aluminium Film Applicators (part numbers K0003570M201, K0003570M002, K0003570M003 and K0003570M004) are anodised aluminium hand applicators for the high-precision manual application of high viscosity fluids onto relatively firm substrates. Each applicator combines a reservoir with a bevelled blade applicator body to lay down an even wet film of controlled thickness.
Repeatable film thickness is fundamental to reliable coating tests: if the applied wet film varies, drying behaviour, opacity, colour and adhesion results cannot be compared from sample to sample. The Elcometer 3570 controls this through a micrometric screw that adjusts the gap in 1 micron intervals across a 0 to 1000μm range, with inclination of the device giving precise control over the applied film.
The four models differ only in film width: 75mm, 100mm, 150mm and 200mm. The total width of the applicator is the film width plus 36mm. The range can be used in accordance with ASTM D 823-E, the practice for producing films of uniform thickness for test purposes, so laboratory results align with a recognised method.
