About this product

The TR3110 Portable Roughness Tester (previously the TR110) is a pocket-sized surface roughness instrument that combines the electronics and probe in a single integral unit. The TR3110 Portable Roughness Tester is widely used to test machined metal and non-metal surfaces, where a known roughness value confirms the finish meets specification for sealing, wear or coating adhesion rather than relying on a visual or touch comparison.

The TR3110 Portable Roughness Tester determines both Ra and Rz across a wide range: Ra from 0.05 to 10.0 microns and Rz from 0.1 to 50 microns. A piezoelectric pick-up with a diamond stylus, of radius 10.0 plus or minus 2.5 microns and a 90 degree angle, traces the surface at 1.0mm per second over a 6mm tracing length, using an RC analogue filter. Selectable cut-off lengths of 0.25mm, 0.8mm and 2.5mm and matching evaluation lengths cover most materials. Stated accuracy is plus or minus 15% with repeatability below 12%. Roughness parameter Ra conforms to ISO and Rz conforms to DIN.

A large backlit LCD shows the readings, a protective slide guards the pick-up, and external calibration can be carried out at the keyboard. The TR3110 Portable Roughness Tester runs on rechargeable 3.6V lithium-ion batteries and can be used while charging, with a 3-hour recharge from a 9V DC supply. The TR3110 Portable Roughness Tester measures 1110 x 70 x 24mm, weighs 200g and operates from 0 to 40 degrees C. The TR3110 is supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised distributor.

When to use the TR3110 Roughness Tester

Reach for the TR3110 when you need a pocket-sized roughness check on machined metal and non-metal surfaces and a basic two-parameter result is enough. It reads both Ra and Rz in one integral unit, over a range of Ra 0.05 to 10.0 micrometres and Rz 0.1 to 50 micrometres, and conforms to ISO and DIN.

  • 1
Ra and Rz in one unit
Reading both Ra and Rz covers the two parameters most often called out on a machined-surface drawing, so one handheld instrument answers the common case without a second tester.
  • 2
    Pocket-sized and economical
The integral, pocket-sized and economically priced design suits inspectors who need quick spot checks across a shop rather than a benchtop or high-parameter laboratory tester.
  • 3
    Stays available through a shift
The rechargeable Li-ion batteries can be used while charging, so the gauge keeps working through a shift instead of being parked for a recharge.

Frequently asked questions

What roughness parameters does the TR3110 measure?

The TR3110 measures Ra (ISO) and Rz (DIN). The Rz measuring range is 0.1 to 50 micrometres. The Ra range depends on the model variant, so confirm the exact Ra range with us for your unit.

What cut-off and evaluation lengths are available on the TR3110?

Cut-off lengths of 0.25mm, 0.8mm and 2.5mm are available. Corresponding evaluation lengths are 1.25mm, 4.0mm and 5.0mm. Tracing length is 6mm at a tracing speed of 1.0mm/sec.

What is the accuracy and repeatability of the TR3110?

Accuracy is plus or minus 15% and repeatability is less than 12%. The stylus is a diamond tip with a 10.0 micrometres (plus or minus 2.5µm) radius and a 90-degree included angle (+5/-10 degrees).

How is the TR3110 powered and what are the operating conditions?

The TR3110 is powered by two 3.6V lithium-ion batteries, rechargeable via 9V DC in approximately 3 hours. Operating temperature is 0 to 40°C with relative humidity below 80%. The instrument weighs 200g.
