
The Elcometer 2434 to 2437 Frikmar Viscosity Cups with Handle are dip cups used to measure the kinematic viscosity, or consistency, of paints, varnishes and similar liquid products, either on site or during the manufacturing process. Consistency directly affects how a coating flows, levels and atomises, so checking it before application helps prevent runs, poor film build and inconsistent finish across batches.
The cup is dipped into the product, then the time taken for the contents to empty through the orifice is recorded. This flow time, usually expressed in seconds, can be converted to Centistokes (cSt) where the relevant Standard specifies a conversion method. The integral handle makes the Elcometer 2434 to 2437 Frikmar Viscosity Cups with Handle easy to hold and use in the field. The range of cups covers viscosities from 7 to 1100 cSt, set by orifice size: the DIN 2434 cups use 2, 4, 6 and 8mm orifices; the Ford/ASTM 2435 cup uses a 4.12mm orifice covering 70 to 370 cSt; the ISO 2437 cups span 3 to 8mm orifices from 7 to 684 cSt; and the AFNOR 2436 cup uses a 3.99mm orifice covering 50 to 1100 cSt. Versions are available with a calibration certificate.
The DIN cups conform to DIN 53211 (Cup 4 only), the Ford/ASTM cups to ASTM D 1200 and ASTM D 5125, the ISO cups to AS/NZS 1580.214.6:1995 and ISO 2431, and the AFNOR cups to NF T30-014, so the correct cup can be selected for the test method in use. Thanks to its handle, the Elcometer Frikmar Dip Cups are very easy to use to perform checks on site or during the manufacturing process. It is ideal for measuring the consistency of paints, varnishes and similar products. The cup is first dipped into the product to be measured, then the contents empty through the orifice. The measured kinematic viscosity is generally expressed in seconds (s) flow time, which can be converted to Centistokes (cSt) if the Standard stipulates a conversion method. Several ranges are available, according to the Standards being used; from 7 to 1100 cSt.
