About this product

The Elcometer 2290 Daniel Flow Gauge is a simple instrument for assessing the ability of thick or paste-like materials, such as paints or printing inks, to flow. Standard dip cups suit pourable liquids, but heavy-bodied products need a different method to gauge their fluidity, which is what determines how such a material spreads, levels and transfers in use.

The product is poured into a semi-cylindrical reservoir. When the Elcometer 2290 Daniel Flow Gauge is lifted vertically, the material runs down a graduated plate fixed perpendicular to the reservoir. The distance the product travels in a pre-determined time gives the measure of its fluidity, so a more fluid material runs further and a stiffer one less.

It is used in paint and printing ink manufacturing and in coatings quality control where thick or paste-like materials are formulated and checked. The Elcometer 2290 Daniel Flow Gauge is supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised Elcometer distributor.

    Frequently asked questions

What materials can the Elcometer 2290 test?

The gauge is designed for thick or paste-like materials, including paints and printing inks. It assesses their ability to flow.

How do you use the Elcometer 2290 Daniel Flow Gauge?

Pour the material into the semi-cylindrical reservoir. Lift the gauge vertically to allow the material to run down the graduated plate, which is fixed perpendicular to the reservoir. The distance travelled in a predetermined time measures fluidity.

What does the Elcometer 2290 measure?

The distance the material travels in the predetermined time is the measure of fluidity. This indicates the material's ability to flow.

Can I use the gauge for materials other than paints and inks?

The gauge is designed for thick or paste-like materials. If your application involves similar viscosity materials, contact BAMR for a quote to discuss suitability.
