The Elcometer 4695 Checkerboard Charts (part number K0004695M030) are Leneta test charts printed with a black and white checkerboard pattern, used in drawdown hiding power tests for paints and coatings. They give laboratories a controlled, repeatable surface for judging how well an applied film hides the contrast beneath it.
Hiding power is a key quality measure for any coating: a paint that does not obscure the substrate at its intended film thickness will look patchy and require extra coats, adding cost and rework. The checkerboard pattern of the Elcometer 4695 Checkerboard Charts provides a consistent reference of light and dark squares so that variations in film opacity show up clearly during a drawdown. One of the earliest hiding power test surfaces was linoleum carrying a black and white checkerboard, later replaced by sealed paperboard charts of this type.
The Elcometer 4695 Checkerboard Charts are made from naturally bright, non-fluorescent white paper and contain no optical brighteners that could affect instrumental colour measurements. The Leneta Chart 10B measures 194 x 289 mm and is supplied 250 charts per box (4.08 kg), with 4 boxes per case. Foil card substrates of steel, aluminium, glass and plastic are also available for the Elcometer 4695 Checkerboard Charts, and the charts can be used with the Elcometer 4340 Motorised Film Applicator.
The Elcometer 4695 Checkerboard Charts can be used in accordance with AS/NZS 1580.213.1, ASTM D344, ASTM D2805, ASTM D2486, ASTM D5150, ASTM D6441, BS 3900-D4, DIN 53162-2, FTMS 141 4121 and ISO 2814. The Elcometer 4695 Checkerboard Charts are supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised Elcometer distributor.

Frequently asked questions
Why do these charts have no optical brighteners?
Optical brighteners distort instrumental colour measurements. These Leneta charts use naturally bright, non-fluorescent paper to provide accurate reference standards.
What are the chart dimensions?
Each chart measures 194 x 289 mm. This size is designed for convenient use on laboratory benches and at coating inspection stations.
How many charts per box and case?
Boxes contain 250 charts, with four boxes per case, providing 1,000 charts per case order for your ongoing QC testing.
How do these charts compare to standard white paper?
These use naturally bright, non-fluorescent paper without optical brighteners, which prevents distortion of instrumental colour measurements that standard paper could cause.
