About this product

The 8706 Hygro Thermometer, also called a thermo hygrometer, is a pocket instrument for measuring temperature, relative humidity, dew point and wet bulb temperature. These four readings matter because climatic conditions decide whether a coating or process succeeds, and knowing dew point in particular tells a painting contractor whether a surface is safe to coat or at risk of condensation that would spoil the finish.

The microprocessor-based design of the 8706 Hygro Thermometer uses a Rotronic electronic capacitance humidity sensor with an electronic capacitance polymer film element, and condensation will not affect the meter's accuracy. A dual display shows temperature and humidity together, with dew point, wet and dry bulb temperature calculated electronically, so there is no water, no twirling and no reading of charts. The temperature range is -20 to +50 degrees C with an external probe range of -20 to 70 degrees C, relative humidity covers 0 to 100% RH, wet bulb runs -21.6 to 50.0 degrees C and dew point -78.7 to 50.0 degrees C. Accuracy is plus or minus 1 degree C on temperature and plus or minus 3% RH at 25 degrees C, with 0.1 degree resolution and a typical 60 second response time.

The 8706 Hygro Thermometer is pocket sized at 24.7 x 48.4 x 178.5 mm, runs on two 1.5V AAA batteries and ships with an external temperature probe (VZ87P6). Self-calibration is available for the 8706 Hygro Thermometer using HR33 and HR75 salt solutions, and an optional external liquid temperature probe extends its use. The 8706 Hygro Thermometer suits HVAC engineers, painting contractors and similar trades. It is supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised distributor of precision measurement and inspection instruments.

When to use the 8706 Hygro Thermometer

Reach for this when you need to confirm climatic conditions before coating, or monitor temperature and humidity in an HVAC setting. It reads temperature, relative humidity, dew point and wet bulb on a dual display with no water, twirling or charts required. It suits inspectors and HVAC engineers who need a fast pocket reading.

  • 1
    Four readings, one device
Temperature, relative humidity, dew point and wet bulb are calculated and displayed together, so you get the climatic picture for a coating decision in one check.
  • 2
    No water or charts needed
The capacitance humidity sensor removes the wet-bulb wicking and reading-chart steps of a sling hygrometer, which speeds repeat readings on site.
  • 3
    Condensation does not affect accuracy
Because condensation will not throw the reading, you can trust measurements taken in damp or dew-point conditions where coating risk is highest.
  • 4
    Self-calibration by salt solution
Optional salt solutions let you recalibrate the humidity sensor for longer working life, keeping the instrument trustworthy over time.
