
The Elcometer 331 Mk2 Standard SH Model Concrete Cover Meter (gauge part number W331SH-2) is a hand-held covermeter that locates and orientates reinforcement bars in concrete and measures the depth of cover over the rebar, with half-cell measurement available for corrosion assessment. Concrete with too little cover over its rebar leaves the steel exposed to moisture and corrosion, which weakens the structure over time, so surveying cover depth and corrosion potential lets engineers identify problem areas before they become failures.
Operation is single-handed, with all functions accessed through four keys, and readings are shown on a backlit graphical display for use in dark environments. The Elcometer 331 Mk2 Standard SH Model Concrete Cover Meter locates rebar and reads cover in millimetres or inches, while the half-cell mode reads in millivolts to indicate where corrosion is most likely; on the graphics plot, black indicates the highest corrosion potential and white the least. The SH model stores up to 10 batches of 1,000 cover or half-cell readings with batch statistics, and up to 240,000 readings can be held in total. Data can be output to a PC or direct to a printer, and a graph-plotting function gives an immediate visual indication of results. The rugged, waterproof IP65 case is built for on-site use.
The Elcometer 331 Mk2 Standard SH Model Concrete Cover Meter can be used in accordance with standards including ACI 318, ASTM C876, BS 1881:201 and :204, BS 8110, DIN 1045 and EC 2, covering cover measurement and half-cell corrosion testing of reinforced concrete. Readings can be managed and reported using Covermaster software. Used in concrete testing, structural inspection and civil engineering, it is supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised Elcometer distributor.

What is the depth range of the standard search head?
With a 40 mm bar, the standard search head reads from 15 mm to 95 mm. With an 8 mm bar, the range is 8 mm to 70 mm.

It uses a 7.4 V lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack providing up to 32 hours of continuous use, or 20 hours with the backlight on, with a 4-hour recharge time.
Can the gauge locate rebar in boreholes?
Yes. Optional borehole probes are available: metric short (0 to 40 cm) and long (0 to 100 cm) probes, plus imperial short (0 to 16 inches) and long (0 to 40 inches) probes.
